Alan Brown, 33, was caught red-handed scouring the Internet for pictures and videos of ‘pre-teens’ being raped and sexually abused. A child abuse images addict who amassed a library of more than 100,000 vile images including one-year-old babies being sexually abused will be free in just six months.

He fed his addiction for three years by downloading huge amounts of child abuse images and films.

Brown admitted to snaring children in online chatrooms with sexually charged conversations, pleasuring himself when teenage girls agreed to strip off on camera.

Brown was put on the sex offenders register and will be banned from working with children for life

Lichfield man shared 10,000 indecent child images online

A Lichfield man with a “library” of over 10,000 vile digital photos and movies of children being abused put them up on the internet for other perverts to look at, a judge heard.

Police found the hoard on two computers owned by Christopher Dodd in a search raid on his home on 14 February last year as a result of information about his internet usage.

The indecent material included scenes of children as young as two being sexually assaulted and youngsters aged ten or 12 being tied up and horribly abused.

Mr Nick Burn, prosecuting, said the images were all ‘live’ files that could be viewed by the defendant. They were also loaded up onto a file-sharing website.

Dodd used the nickname ‘Lichlad’ to download images and to receive requests from others to view his files.

“Effectively there was a ‘sharing’ folder, effectively a library he allowed others to access,” said Mr Burn.

Dodd, aged 32, of Upper St John Street, Lichfield, who admitted ten charges of possessing indecent images of children for show and two of simple possession was given a three year community order to undergo a sex offender treatment programme.

He was also ordered to do 250 hours unpaid community work and his internet use restricted under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Recorder Mr Simon Draycott QC told him: “If you had any previous convictions, I would have no hesitation in sending you immediately to custody.”

Mr Burn said Dodd’s ‘library’ for sharing included; 8,625 photos and 33 movies at the least serious level one; 1,199 photos and 79 movies level two; 749 photos and 23 movies level three; 1,482 photos and 117 movies level four and 152 photos and 10 movies at the most serious level five. On a separate laptop he also had 97 images at level one and 62 images level two.

Mr Burn said the level five material was “a very graphic and unpleasant set of photos and moving images being used by the defendant and being made available to other persons of like intent.”

Mr Tim pole, defending, said that that following his arrest in August last year, Dodd was fully co-operative with the police.

Graeme Ackerman: “on the run” Paedophile finally jailed!

Graeme Ackerman facing child sex allegations went on the run to avoid prosecution, starting a new life in the Middle East.

Following a complaint to police over his activities with an underage girl, Graeme Ackerman was arrested and interviewed, but made no comment.

Durham Crown Court heard, however, that in a later interview, in July 2011, he told police he had become “close” to the girl, who he believed was “infatuated” with him.

Robin Turton, prosecuting, said Ackerman was told he would be reported for summons to appear at court, but failed to attend the first hearing before North Durham magistrates, in November 2011.

Mr Turton said it emerged he had, by then, left the country on a flight to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

His whereabouts came to light earlier this year and he was arrested, spending 86 days in custody in the emirate before extradition was agreed and he was brought back to this country in late May, since when he has remained in custody.

Ackerman, 48, formerly of High Street, Carrville, Durham, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child.

John Gregg, mitigating, told the court: “He’s a man of mature years with a good record working in retail, in managerial positions for supermarkets.

“But, he knows the law is in place to protect teenage girls.

“He says she was a teenage girl infatuated with him, but he knows he should have dealt with that appropriately and failed to do so.”

Mr Gregg submitted a letter from the defendant and a character reference submitted by his fiancée, a pharmaceutical company manager he met in Dubai.

Jailing him for three years and nine months, Recorder Graham Hyland also imposed a sexual offences prevention order, to run “until further notice”, restricting future unsupervised contact with underage girls, while Ackerman must also register as a sex offender for life

Donald Down paedophile pensioner

Donald Down, a perverted pensioner who abused young boys and asked them to call him “Grandad” has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years.

Donald Down, 76, was one of two men who befriended and “sexually exploited” the youngsters.

Maidstone Crown Court heard Down “groomed or coerced” his victims after plying them with alcohol and cigarettes at his home in Winchester Crescent, Gravesend.

One of the boys actually phoned police from a call box to report what had happened to him.

However, Down – who was previously convicted more than 50 years ago for child sex abuse – was not arrested until six days later and in that time the former airman and his accomplice, 20-year-old Michael Stone, went on to molest other boys.

When Down was arrested on January 3 this year, he had a handwritten list of children’s names in his pocket. He said they were youngsters he was “having trouble with”.

However, he later claimed it was not his hand-writing and denied he had abused any children.

Down also accused Stone, of Valley Drive, Gravesend, of “stitching him up”.

Down had been due to stand trial on July 1, but pleaded guilty to four offences of sexual activity with a child and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity before it got under way.

Jailing Down, Judge Michael Carroll said he had committed a “catalogue” of serious sexual offences against young, “vulnerable” boys who were “encouraged” through alcohol and cigarettes to visit his home.

He was ordered to serve consecutive sentences of two years, three years and three-and-a-half years.

Down was also ordered to sign on the sex offenders’ register and made subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, both indefinitely

Prosecutor Anthony Prosser said Down both molested the boys and made suggestive comments about what he wanted to do to them.

One told police he was given beer and rum and thought he had to drink it because Down “was older” than him. He added that he was scared.

Another said Down “wanted to be known as Grandad” and had put on a pornographic film for the boys to watch.

A third boy claimed Down had peformed a sex act on him while he was being held in a “half-nelson”, allegedly by Stone.

The court heard Down, who has no living relatives, was given two years’ probation in 1957 for indecent assault on a boy under 10.

He was doing National Service in the Air Force at the time.

Christopher Sutton Mattocks, defending, said Down’s council home had been repossessed and he faced an “uncertain future” once released from prison.

“It was a late decision (to plead guilty) but nonetheless a realistic one and perhaps somewhat courageous for a man of his age who faces a term of imprisonment for the first time in his life,” he added.

Stone was not fit to stand trial due to mental health issues, the court heard. Therefore, a jury had to simply determine whether he “did the acts” alleged against him.

They found he was responsible for one offence of sexual assault and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The jury decided he had not held one boy while Down abused him.

Stone is expected to be made subject to a hospital order when he returns to the crown court later this week.

Andrew Peet Pervert Scout leader

Andrew Peet viewed child abuse images from when he was an early age, Bristol Crown Court heard yesterday. A FORMER assistant scout leader who downloaded and shared indecent pictures of children has been jailed.

His activities were brought to light when his details were detected by the US-based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.

Peet, 22, of Valley Gardens, Nailsea, pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing indecent material.

Jailing him for 18 months, Judge Michael Roach told him: “It is very sad to see a man of your age and of good character, of whom people speak very well in court, pleading guilty to offences of this seriousness.”

Peet was told to register as a sex offender for ten years and made the subject of a five-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order, banning him from unsupervised contact with people aged under 18.

Prosecutor Richard Posner said Peet, a carpenter and maintenance man at Bristol University, had used internet search terms relating to child abuse and had stored folders on two computers containing 47,000 photos.

Forensic analysis carried out on 6,000 images found 2,645 indecent photos of predominantly pre-pubescent boys and girls and 45 indecent movies of children.

Police were able to cite examples when Peet forwarded indecent material to others.

Peet stressed he would not physically abuse or photograph youngsters but said he was sickened by his own behaviour and realised children would have been harmed in producing the images.

The court heard Bristol University were aware and kept him on, he was no longer involved in scouting and his involvement with the British Canoeing Union put him into contact only with people aged over 18.

Caroline Harvey, defending, said her client had volunteered himself for sex offender treatment.

She said: “He is only 22 and has no previous convictions.

“He’s well aware, now, of the impact his offending has had.”

Graham Willard Paedophile

Graham Willard, of Fakenham Way, admitted two offences of possessing indecent images of children – some on his computer and some on an old hard drive in a cupboard in his room. A judge handed a 46-year-old Sandhurst man a “golden opportunity” to receive professional help after he admitted to possessing images of child abuse images.

He was arrested after a routine call by police in May 2011 because he was already on the sex offenders’ register for a previous conviction.

At Reading Crown Court on Friday Judge Ian Grainger was told there were 130 images on the hard drive – 45 at the least serious Level 1 and 85 at the most serious Level 5.

On Willard’s computer, there were 114 images mainly at the least serious Level 1 but eight were at Level 5.

Sandra Beck, prosecuting, said Willard had previous convictions in 1990 for indecent images and in 2004 when he was imprisoned for four months for 28 counts of making indecent images.

She also pointed out, although there was no charge of distributing indecent images, there was software on his computer which was capable of distributing images.

Nick Cotter, defending, said Willard had co-operated with the police and pleaded guilty immediately.

He said the images on the old hard drive pre-dated the 2004 previous conviction but were not part of that conviction.

Mr Cotter said Willard had never had any professional help to deal with his offending.

He said he was employed but lived in a “cloistered environment” with his mother and stepfather.

A pre-sentence report recommended a community sentence and Mr Cotter said it would represent a “golden opportunity at 46 years of age for this man to receive some professional help from people who are expert in this field”.

Judge Grainger said Willard’s “obsession with images of this kind” was “deep seated and continuing”.

He sentenced Willard to a community order for three years, with supervision along with a requirement to attend a sex offenders’ programme and to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

He placed a sex offenders’ prevention order on Willard until further notice and banned him from using any computers except those at his workplace.

Pervert Gareth Jordan found with Cardiffs school children images given community order!

Gareth Martin Jordan was exposed after a doctor reported what he had told her to the police. The paedophile had dozens of pictures of children apparently taken outside a Cardiff school on his computer, a court has heard.

When police raided his house, they found indecent photos and movies of young children from levels one to four, with level five being the most serious.

There were also 46 pictures of children walking to school in Cardiff.

In a drawer they found children’s clothing and underwear that he had bought to “replicate” his fantasies.

In June, Jordan, 55, was sentenced to a three-year community order and ordered to complete a sex offender programme after admitting a total of 26 counts relating to indecent images of children.

Police raided his home, at East Road, Tylorstown, Rhondda, twice.

The first time was when a work colleague at Leckwith Retail Park in Cardiff spotted Jordan in the canteen looking at a photograph of a young Asian girl, aged around 12, in an erotic pose on October 18.

He saw him again doing the same thing two days later and decided to report the matter to the police on October 22.

That day police searched Jordan’s home and found a number of images and movies.

Prosecutor Nicola Harris told Merthyr Crown Court there was also a DVD of a beauty pageant at a “nudist or naturist camp” focussing on naked female participants.

Jordan’s home was searched for a second time when Dr Ruth Bagshaw approached police with concerns over Jordan.

“Her duties under the Children Act overrode patient confidentiality,” said Ms Harris.

The court heard he had admitted that he watched girls walk past, had driven to certain locations where he had pleasured himself, and had also followed one girl.

In all, police found 844 static images between levels one and three and 62 movie files between levels one and four.

Magistrates had committed Jordan to the crown court for sentencing after he admitted 14 counts of making and 12 of possessing indecent images of a child.

Ordered to sign as a sex offender for five years, Jordan was also made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order (Sopo) limiting his use of devices able to access the internet, which had to be available to be inspected by police.

He was also prohibited from buying female underwear.

But on July 4, as part of the monitoring procedure for the Sopo, probation and police officers attended Jordan’s home.

One of the officers noticed a device to enable a mobile phone to be contacted to the internet.

But when they asked to see it he refused to hand it over, saying he didn’t have it.

When the phone was eventually located it did not contain any indecent images of children but police discovered a memory stick concealed in his bed.

It contained three indecent images of children.

Jordan admitted three counts of possessing indecent images of children, one of making indecent images of children, and breaching the Sopo.

Judge Richard Twomlow made Jordan the subject of a community order to run alongside the existing order, which expires on June 7, 2016.

He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and pay a £60 victim surcharge.

Judge Twomlow told him: “The breach was flagrant and deliberate. Any further breach will result in imprisonment.”

Stephen Williams Predatory paedophile sentenced to 24 years in prison

Stephen WILLIAMS (60) of Ladysmith Road, Grimsby was arrested by police on 08 January 2013 and was charged with seven counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl under 13, one count of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15, three counts of rape of a girl under 13 and four counts of rape of a girl aged 13/14/15. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison. A sex offender who was charged with 15 sex offences has been handed a Substantial prison sentence following a trial which concluded at Grimsby Crown Court on Thursday 18 July.

Before sentence was passed, defence barrister Simon Hirst asked Recorder Anton Lodge QC to take into consideration it being Williams’ first custodial sentence and his age.

Recorder Lodge described Williams as a “clever man” who had used his cleverness to manipulate and control others for “criminally immoral ends.”

He said: “It can be safely said that you have damaged each of the three girls.”

Williams was also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and disqualified from working with children.

When the sentence was passed, relatives of the victims let out a jubilant cry of “yes” from the public gallery.

By contrast, Williams, who was wearing a turquoise green cardigan and white shirt, showed no emotion as he was told of his fate.

Minutes earlier he had appeared in a relaxed mood, and was seen laughing and joking with the court guards.

As Williams was led from the dock, his victims’ relatives gave him a sarcastic round of applause, with one saying: “Has justice been done? Yes, it has.”

Detective Sergeant Phil BOOKER, of the Public Protection Unit in Grimsby said: “This was a case involving serious sexual offences and justice has prevailed. This is an excellent result for the victims and their families after reliving their ordeal by having to go through a trial to give evidence and the impact this will have had on them emotionally.

“I am are extremely pleased with the result and for the outcome for the victims, after conducting a serious and complex investigation my thoughts, and that of the team of investigators, are with the victims and families and have been there to support them throughout the investigation and trial.

“WILLIAMS will now thankfully be behind bars for a significant number of years and will not have the opportunity to prey on other victims. I hope this sentence will show people that sex offenders such as WILLIAMS will not go unnoticed by police and, I hope this will encourage people to come forward and report such serious offences to police.”

Child Abuser David Vickers former holiday camp worker jailed

David Vickers warned the youngster not to tell anyone about the incident in his van in North Yorkshire earlier this year. A FORMER holiday camp worker has been jailed for child abuse after getting a schoolgirl to touch him sexually.

Vickers was on a lunch-break from his gardening job when he encouraged the girl to touch him intimately, a court was told.

After the child confided in her mother, the 47-year-old initially denied it – but later fully confessed in a police interview.

Vickers, of no fixed abode, but from the Richmond area, was locked up for 14 months at Teesside Crown Court.

He was also ordered to sign on the sex offenders’ register for ten years and will be banned for life from working with children.

Judge Howard Crowson also imposed a separate ten-year order, prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with under-16s.

He told the bespectacled former farm worker: “These were very wrong acts on your part. Mercifully, it went no further.

“She should have been innocent of any sexual matters. One hopes what took place that day will continue to be a mystery to her.”

James Fenny, mitigating, told how revelations of the incident resulted in Vickers losing his family, his home and his job.

“He is a broken man,” said Mr Fenny. “Clearly, this case has had huge ramifications for him. He lots his family in an instant.

“He has worked pretty much all of his life and with a conviction like this , I imaging employers won’t wan to touch him.”

Vickers worked in Australia and on Scottish islands as a sheep shearer before a year-long stint at a Butlins holiday camp.

The court heard how he told a probation worker that the girl was to blame for the incident, but disputed that in court.

His lawyer told Judge Crowson that he wants to learn new skills in prison and work with agencies to tackle his problems.

The judge told him: “You have effectively destroyed your own personal life and employment life.

“It will be very difficult in the future but one hopes it will be rebuilt by your efforts. It will be a long road.”

Vickers admitted a charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity at an earlier court hearing.

Facebook paedophile predator Richard Bragger jailed

Richard Bragger, of Astley Close, Woodrow, was given the sentence at Worcester Crown Court on Monday (July 15) after pleading guilty to causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity. A ‘SEXUAL predator’ has been jailed for two years after grooming a teenage girl on Facebook.

He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was handed an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

The 41-year-old formed a relationship with the 14-year-old through the social networking site, where he had regular intimate conversations with her.

It was only after the girl’s mother became suspicious and discovered the contact he was arrested.

Det Con Matt Skelton, of West Mercia Police’s Child Protection Unit, said Bragger was fully aware the victim was only 14.

“Unfortunately social networking sites such as Facebook give sexual predators a new and easy way of targeting young people without necessarily having direct physical contact with them,” he said.

“With the school holidays starting and many teenagers being left to their own devices, it is a relevant time to warn parents of the dangers of young people face while accessing the internet unsupervised.”

He added to stop children becoming a victim of grooming, parents should make sure they only use the internet on a computer in a family room rather than on laptops or mobile phones in bedrooms.

“It also imperative they sit down with their children to establish ground rules about internet use, including going through the list of friends they have social networking sites,” he said.

“Communicating with their children, taking an interest in what they are doing, and being approachable means a child is much more likely to tell them if they see anything online that makes them feel worried or uncomfortable.”

Colin Aikman, 41, of Rannoch Road, admitted creating and possessing child abuse images at his home. He is a Perth man who created more than 100 indecent images of children and had hundreds more on his mobile phone has appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.

Depute fiscal Carol Whyte said police had been carrying out investigations into a separate matter when they had reason to examine Aikman’s mobile phone.

The court heard the offences came to light when a number of images were found in the download folder of Aikman’s phone.

He pleaded guilty to creating 122 indecent images between December 21 2011 and January 17 2012.

Of those, 119 are considered to be at the lowest level — indecent images, but with no sexual activity — while three were more serious, involving adults and children, but not at the highest level of offence.

Aikman was also found to have 351 indecent images in the thumbnails folder of his phone, which shows all images viewed, even if they have since been deleted.

Of those, 347 were at the lowest level and four were more serious.

Sheriff Michael Fletcher adjourned the case for a report.

Aikman was granted continuation of his bail until his next court appearance, which will be on August 19.

Ian Davison, 60, was found with over 21,500 sick pictures on his computer. He has admitted possessing thousands of indecent images of children.

Police also discovered films of children taken from the street.

Davison admitted 23 charges of making and taking indecent images when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

The offences are so serious that he faces sentencing by a crown court judge.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting said that in 2009 police were made aware of a website where users could access child pornography.

One of the IP addresses was tracked to Davison and his home in Union Road, Liversedge, was searched.

Mrs Fowler said: “His computers were seized and he admitted the downloading of indecent images of children.

“He said he had been looking at adult pornography and started to look at indecent child images.”

The court heard that of the images seized, 421 were graded at the most serious level of five.

A total of 350 movies of children were also found in Davison’s possession.

Mrs Fowler added: “A number of images of children have been filmed from the street by this defendant.”

Davison was committed for sentence at Leeds Crown Court.

He will appear there on August 15 and was granted unconditional bail.

Shahbaz Ahmed Taxi rapist

A TAXI driver faces jail after being convicted of picking up a teenage boy and raping him in his car. It took a jury of eight men and four women just three and a half hours to unanimously find Shahbaz Ahmed guilty of raping the 15-year-old boy.

During a three day trial at Bolton Crown Court they had heard how the boy, who is now aged 16, was walking home along Thicketford Road,Tonge Moor in the early hours of July 13 last year after spending the evening with friends.

Metro Cars driver Ahmed was working that night when he spotted the teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, and offered him a lift, telling the boy, “You shouldn’t be walking around at this time. It’s dangerous.”

The teenager told the court he thought the driver was just being kind, but after stopping briefly outside the boy’s home, Ahmed then drove to the car park at Harwood Golf Club.

There he forced the boy to perform a sex act on him. The teenager said he was too terrified to run away because he feared Ahmed would run him over with the car.

After the ordeal Ahmed, a 35-year-old married father-of-three, drove the boy home and the teenager told adults what had happened.

DNA from Ahmed was found on the boy and the taxi driver, of Parkfield Road, Great Lever, was arrested.

He admitted a sexual act had taken place, butclaimed it was at the teenager’s instigation, adding that the boy had pulled out a knife and threatened to hurt himself if he did not take part.

Ahmed stood emotionless in the dock as the guilty verdict was read out and his defence counsel Wayne Jackson, requesting an adjournment until September 6 for reports to be prepared before sentence is passed, conceded: “A custodial sentence of some length will follow.”

Judge Timothy Stead told Ahmed: “The matter you have been found guilty of is a serious one. In all the circumstances you will be remanded in custody between now and September.”

Ahmed was also told he will be placed on the sex offenders register and is now barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.

Pervert Barry Pettet OAP committed indecent act as he talked to young boy escapes jail sentence

Burnley Crown Court heard how Barry Pettet, 68, had been caught by his horrified, and shocked, next door neighbour at his then home, in Dale Street, in Bacup. The HALF-NAKED pensioner who performed an indecent act while talking to a young boy in Bacup has been banned from the town.

She took the child home, and police were called.

The hearing was told how Pettet, who told officers he had been chatting to the schoolboy about football, had since been remanded in custody for 17 days for his own protection. His property had been attacked and the word ‘paedo’, and other graffiti, had been daubed on his back yard

Pettet was given a 12- month community order, after admitting committing an act outraging public decency, on July 1.

He was excluded from Bacup, and a new home has been found for him.

Pettet is prohibited from entering any garden, yard, or any communal yard attached to his address, unless dressed in a reasonable manner.

Recorder Anthony Cross, QC, told him: “You can’t walk around half-naked in the street.”

Stephen Parker, prosecuting, said at about 7pm, the Pettet’s then next door neighbour’s partner told her the defendant was talking to a small boy standing in the back street.

She was concerned, immediately ran upstairs and looked out of the back bedroom window. She saw Pettet standing at the top step of his back yard, near the garden gate, wearing only a vest-type top, performing an indecent act on himself towards a boy.

The child was on the back street, about 10 feet away from him.

The neighbour banged on the window, Pettet turned round, seemed shocked, and looked up. He nearly fell down the steps and ran back into the house.

Mr Parker said Pettet was arrested and, when questioned, admitted committing the indecent act.

He said the boy wasn’t able to see him, and that his yard was private. Pettet claimed he had been talking to the child about football, The prosecutor continued: “He said he wasn’t attracted to young boys. He had not intended for anybody to see what he was doing. He said he was not under the influence of any substances, and he knew what he was doing.

“He was sorry if he upset anybody and had learned his lesson.”

Pettet had no previous convictions.

Recorder Cross told the defendant he had behaved ‘quite disgracefully’ in the presence of the boy.

Violent Alcoholic Child Killer Carl Mills sentenced to min 30 years

Carl Mills jailed at least 30 years for triple murder.

A violent alcoholic man has been found guilty of murdering three generations of the same family, including his own ill baby daughter, by setting fire to their home on the day the child came home from hospital for the first time.

Carl Mills, 28, killed his six-month-old daughter, Kimberley, who was born deaf and blind, her mother, Kayleigh Buckley, 17, and the child’s grandmother, Kim Buckley, 46, who were all trapped in the family home in Coed Eva, Cwmbran, when a blaze ripped through it in the early hours of 18 September last year.

Mills started the inferno after becoming convinced that Kayleigh had been seeing other men, and because he was jealous that she was spending more time with the child than him.

He was jailed for life at Newport crown court and told he would serve at least 30 years before being considered for parole. Mr Justice Wyn Williams said: “You must have known that once the fire had taken hold that there would be virtually no chance of escape.” He added: “There is no saying whether you will ever be released.” There was applause in the public gallery as Mills was led away.

Kayleigh and her mother had been celebrating Kimberley’s homecoming after she spent her first six months in hospital. When the fire took hold, neighbours desperately tried to help but the teenage mother refused to leave her baby to escape and could not bear to throw the child to safety.

The jury heard that Mills “groomed” Kayleigh when she was just 15 after they met via Facebook. He moved into the family home but was living in a tent in the garden at the time of the murders, having fallen out with his girlfriend’s mother.

Contacts that health and social services professionals and other agencies had with the family will now come under scrutiny. The court was told that social services were concerned about Mills’s heavy drinking and he had been banned by officials from seeing Kimberley in hospital. A serious case review has been commissioned by the Torfaen safeguarding children board.

After the verdict, the surviving members of the family released a statement in which they said they believed justice had been done.

It said: “Carl Mills starts a life sentence for three murders but for us, the family and friends of Kim, Kayleigh and Kimberley, our life sentence started on 18 September last year when three beautiful innocent people were torn from our lives. Our lives are never going to be the same again.”

Nicola Rees of the Crown Prosecution Service Wales said: “Carl Mills was responsible for starting a devastating fire that had distressing and tragic consequences. He did so knowing full well who was in the house at the time – and the evidence of his jealous and controlling nature makes it all too clear what his intentions were.

“Once the fire had taken hold, neighbours and friends of Kim, Kayleigh and Kimberley Buckley did whatever they could to try and assist at the scene. In contrast, Mills himself displayed a callous, almost casual disregard for the wellbeing of those trapped inside the house.”

Mills was arrested in the back garden of the family home on the night of the fire. He showed no emotion but insisted he had nothing to do with the fire.

He insisted that he and Kayleigh were in love and planned to get married. But when police examined his mobile phones they discovered that he had made explicit threats to kill Kayleigh by burning the house down.

Detective Superintendent Peter Jones of Gwent police said: “It was very clear from the text messages that Mills was making threats to kill. Threats to kill using arson. Carl Mills is an incredibly controlling individual.”

Jones said it was no coincidence that Mills murdered his own daughter on the night she was allowed home from hospital for the first time. Asked whether Mills was a sexual predator who had groomed the teenager, Jones said: “I think that the facts speak for themselves. Carl Mills will be 29 this year and Kayleigh was 15 when they met.”

Stewart Thomas McDevitt, a PAEDOPHILE rapist who repeatedly assaulted two young girls has been jailed for 16 years.

Winchester Crown Court heard last week that one of the victims was only nine when Stewart Thomas McDevitt, 50, began abusing her.

McDevitt, formerly of Amesbury, denied the abuse when he was arrested in March last year but was found guilty of eight counts of indecent assault and two of rape by a jury sitting at Portsmouth Crown Court following a one-week trial starting on July 2.

He was cleared of a further three counts of indecent assault.

Speaking after the sentencing, DC Darren Ambrose of Wiltshire Police said: “McDevitt preyed on two innocent girls, which had a long-lasting and devastating effect on them.

“They have shown great courage in coming forward and speaking to police and we hope that this case will encourage any other victims of sexual abuse to report it.

“McDevitt has continued to deny any involvement but the jury found him guilty and the prison sentence imposed today reflects the vile nature of his crime.”

McDevitt, now of Barne Barton, Plymouth, was also made subject to a sexual offences prevention order.
